steve made it to the first time station in 3 hours 4 mins.  42.7 miles.  he is currently in last place but is smart as he is pacing himself-while the others aren't.

8:30pm EST  spoke with Robin-his spirits are good.  most of the solo racers are together-tough terrain.  steep inclines, narrow roads.  54 degrees outside.  at this time she estimates that he is 64 miles into the race.  they are approaching Belfast.  Robin stated that one bike didn't arrive(they took two for the race)-lost in paris-they just got it tuesday morning before the race-thankfully!!!    took days to locate the bike-finally they got word that it was in dublin-would've been much tougher racing with just one bike.

9/16/09 7:00am EST steve has made it 162.4 miles averaging 11.73 miles/hour.  steve broke a chain on his bike and had to stop to fix it-saving his second bike for the second half of the race.  he is considered one of the favorites of the race.  he got lost on around the first time station and at the time was an hour behind the leader of the race.  see below for a picture of the team.

10:45 am EST  according to the race around ireland website-the car following him went into a ditch.  everyone is ok and they are back on the road.
